Telefónica continued to see success for its Telco4Telco strategy in the Eastern Mediterranean through a new deal with Cypriot operator PrimeTel.

Telefónica Business Solutions is to provide PrimeTel with a distributed denial of service (DDoS) protection service, which will in turn be offered to PrimeTel business customers.

The service will be available to PrimeTel customers on an on-demand basis, without the need for upfront investment, and claims the ability to identify and isolate malicious traffic from legitimate traffic before it reaches the client’s network.

PrimeTel indicated it has a strategic alliance in place with Telxius-Telefónica which led to the introduction of the new offering. More specifically, this appears to be a Telco4Telco-based deal originating with Telefónica Business Solutions. Telefónica’s Telco4Telco wholesale strategy started to gain prominence towards the end of 2016, and is based on the telco recycling internally developed and deployed services for use by other operators in markets where the Spanish telco does not have a commercial presence.

While the telco’s cybersecurity products and experience have been put forward as a key element of the portfolio, an early deal secured by the programme was for white-label access to the Telefónica smart m2m platform, which was signed with Greek operator Wind Hellas (Telefónicawatch, #113).
