Rangaswami leaves BT
JP Rangaswami, BT Group’s Chief Science Officer and Group Chief of Digital Communications, joined salesforce.com as its first Chief Science Officer.
The departure of Rangaswami from BT would appear to mark the end of a period where BT flirted with “telco 2.0″, with the company becoming an increasingly software led business. Previous departures involved in such thinking have included Al Noor Ramji and Martin Geddes.
The departure of Rangaswami also raises questions regarding the future of Ribbit, the Internet Protocol communications company acquired by BT in 2008 (BTwatch, 2008.06), which was the responsibility of Rangaswami. US based Ribbit has yet to make a serious impact on the BT business, although it is increasingly being made available through a series of applications intended to offer cloud services to small and medium size enterprises, including solutions integrated with salesforce.com (BTwatch, 2008.10-11).
- BT Engage IT is a reseller of salesforce.com.
