BT International: Europe
BT launches Unified Communications Video as a service
BT Global Services’ BT Benelux unit announced the launch of BT Unified Communications Video (UCV) as a service — a new cloud based offering designed to lower the entry barrier for high definition video conferencing through BT hosting the whole central infrastructure.
“ BT is a market leader in the domain of high quality telepresence services. Our solutions are used by large multinational companies in the Benelux and all around the world. Many other organisations aspire to access such services on a less intensive basis, but are not in a position to justify the required investment for their own infrastructure. Our new cloud based video conferencing offering gives such organisations an alternative to business travel. Customers get to pay a monthly fee, instead of having to invest upfront in the central infrastructure. UCV as a service also enables secure face to face communication with other users connected to the same, shared infrastructure — enabling, for example, government specific virtual meeting environments or communication with partners within their own ecosystem. Our new solution guarantees reliable, fast, and secure ‘in person’ meeting experiences. ”
– Bas Burger, Chief Executive, BT Benelux.
The company said the launch comes in response to a survey of Belgian and Dutch business travellers, which found that around half of respondents would significantly reduce their travelling if they had access to high quality telepresence solutions, but that most companies cannot justify the expense of investing in their own infrastructure.
The study found that only 33% of Belgian and 19% of Dutch respondents have specially equipped, high definition video conferencing rooms at their offices, and determined that Belgian and Dutch business travellers expect, on average, to save around 470 and 268 car and train kilometres a month per person, respectively, from the wider availability of telepresence services.

BT launches Virtual iPBX in the Netherlands
BT Global Services announced the launch of BT Virtual iPBX, a cloud based wholesale Internet Protocol (IP) voice service, in the Netherlands.
The service, which supports IP , PSTN , and SIP based voice services, personal computer fax, and voicemail, as well as a number of unified communications features, allows resellers to offer small and medium sized enterprise (SME) customers an IP voice service that is usually only available to large or government organisations.
“ The traditional IP PBX market is mainly based on equipment which is deployed at the customer’s premises. Our new, hosted PBX [private branch exchange] solution offers great advantages: it is cost efficient; future proof; and the pay as you go model significantly lowers investment barriers for the SME customers of our resellers. Besides the compelling unified communications features, resellers can remotely manage the solution for their end users by accessing a secure web management portal. This solution fits perfectly with our roadmap to make our wholesale customers successful through cloud based services. ”
– Carla Somhorst, General Manager, Global Telecom Markets, BT Benelux.
BT also named Atlantic Telecom as the first reseller to offer a service based on BT Virtual iPBX.
