  • SevOne picks up its first major contract to support performance monitoring over the virtualised networks underpinning BT’s Dynamic Network Services.

BT Global Services picked network performance management software from US-based supplier SevOne to help it maintain effective network performance monitoring on services provided under the Dynamic Network Services programme.

The division apparently intends to use the cloud-based SevOne Data Platform to gain greater insight into the performance of the managed network services it provides to large enterprise customers. SevOne pointed out that it is becoming increasingly difficult to gain access to information about managed network services as networks become more virtualised and applications are migrated to the cloud.

The SevOne Data Platform is said to simplify the “extraction, enrichment, and analysis of network and machine data” from multivendor environments, providing BT service teams with a unified real-time view of customer network health. The platform supports software-defined network technologies, enterprise Wi-Fi, and software-defined wide area network architectures. The use of application programming interfaces is also said to allow BT to integrate the platform with its own management capabilities such as Service Intelligence, which enables customers to pinpoint faults on their networks and identify root causes.

The division expects to use SevOne’s platform across all of its products and services, describing its selection as an important element of its Dynamic Network Services portfolio development (BTwatch, passim). Hriday Ravindranath, Global Services’ Chief Technology and Information Officer, highlighted the new platform’s use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in supporting this.

The platform is said to have the ability to guide itself in managing the network by building an understanding of normal behaviours based on historic data and trends, and to respond appropriately. He claimed this will help both BT and its customers to gain a deeper understanding of what is happening to applications and data as they cross the network.

It appears that this is the first time BT has selected SevOne products for internal use at scale, although, back in 2016, the BT Business Direct website recommended the supplier’s network monitoring tool, among others, to its customers.
